TORRANCE, California: Honda is recalling nearly 1.7 million vehicles due to a potential steering issue that could increase the risk of crashes.

The recall was prompted by a manufacturing defect in the steering gearbox assembly, which may cause excessive internal friction, making it difficult to steer the vehicle.

The recall affects certain model years from 2022 to 2025, including Acura Integras, Honda Civics, CR-Vs, and HR-Vs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the safety recall after an investigation, which began in March, received 145 complaints from Honda Civic drivers experiencing steering difficulties. Although no crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to the defect, the issue could pose a significant safety risk.

Honda will begin notifying affected vehicle owners by mail starting November 18. Vehicle owners are advised to visit their dealerships, where technicians will replace the worm gear spring and apply grease if needed, free of charge.

For more information, vehicle owners can contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. The recall codes are SJS, MJU, QJT, and VJV.
