Rear Spied - Creta Rival Launch Soon

Honda's contender for compact SUV space is finally coming to India. It has been a long wait for Honda fans. In a few months from now, Honda will launch a new compact SUV to take on the likes of Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara, Toyota HyRyder, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

New Spy Shots Of

Honda compact SUV will be underpinned by a modified version of City sedan, measuring a length of around 4.3m. Looking at the new spy shots, we can see that Honda has tried to reduce overhangs as much as possible, especially at the rear.

By doing so, Honda might offer a wheelbase of up to 2700 mm in length with its compact SUV, even longer than the sedan it is based on. For reference, segment leader Creta offers 2610 mm and German duo offers the longest wheelbase of 2651 mm. Latest Honda SUV spy shots are credited to automotive enthusiast Karthik Bhat, who managed to click them in Solapur.

In terms of design, Honda has kept it mostly boxy, which helps in extracting maximum interior space. There is a large grille up front with a conventional headlight position along with LED DRL elements. At the rear, we have tail-lights inspired by the recently launched WR-V SUV in Indonesia. Sporty appeal is increased by inclusion of a spoiler and swanky-looking alloys.

Our rendering of this upcoming SUV inculcates latest Honda design trends, reflecting this sporty appeal. At least at launch, Honda will not offer a diesel engine option. Most likely to be offered, are a 1.5L NA petrol engine and a strong hybrid powertrain equipped with the same engine. Performance figures are likely to be different as Honda will likely tune its SUV differently.

Honda Compact SUV To Be Loaded With Features

Features listed at launch might include a panoramic sunroof, camera-based Sensing ADAS suite, multi-zone climate control, all-wheel disc brakes, and a freestanding touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Pricing will be key for Honda as that is likely to be a primary deciding factor. Launch will happen in mid 2023.

Prices of the Honda Compact SUV could be very competitive, as it has to take on established rivals like Creta, Seltos and new Grand Vitara. Together, these 3 SUVs are currently generating about 30k units in sales every month. Eating into their market share will not be easy. Will Honda manage to break into the stronghold, or not? Only time will tell.
